Barcelona – Real Madrid
The world will be watching on Wednesday night because Barcelona hosts Real Madrid at the Camp Nou in another El Classico of Spanish football. This is a postponed game from the 10th round of La Liga and the first two teams in the standings face each other.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have 35 points each right now in La Liga, but the Catalans are leading the standings because of better goal difference. This could change on Wednesday if Los Blancos manage to take the win at the Camp Nou. Both teams made draws in their last matches in the league – Barca made a 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad in San Sebastian, while Real Madrid only took a point after a 1-1 draw against Valencia at the Mestalla.
Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez scored for Barcelona in San Sebastian, but these two goals were not enough for Ernesto Valverde’s team to secure the win. On Wednesday the champions will be without the injured Ousmane Dembele and Arthur, but everyone else in the squad is healthy. Valverde is once again going to use his attacking trident of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann, while the young Ansu Fati will wait for a chance from the bench to play his first ever El Classico.
Eden Hazard and Marcelo are the big absentees in Real Madrid’s team for the derby. Against Valencia Zinedine Zidane used Nacho at the left flank of the defense, while Isco and Rodrygo helped Karim Benzema in attack. Gareth Bale and Vinicius remian other options for Zidane to but put alongisde Benzema upfront. Against Valencia Karim Benzema scored his 12th goal in La Liga this season.
We can’t expect anything different, but a spectacle when Barcelona and Real Madrid go head to head at the Camp Nou on Wednesday. The Spanish league could have a new leader after this match, but Barca could also gain some advantage over their big rivals.
