Olympique Marseille – Monaco
Olympique Marseille hosts Monaco in one of the most interesting games of the 20th round of the French Ligue 1. The game will be played on Sunday night at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille.
Monaco are performing amazingly in the Ligue 1 this season. Leonardo Jardim’s team is currently 2nd in the standings, falling just two poins behind the surprising leader Nice. They are also the highest scoring team in the country at this moment, having scored 56 goals in 19 games so far.
Olympique Marseille on the other hand are currently 6th in the standings, but they are still aiming for an european qualification for the next season. Marseille are just four points behind the 4th Olympique Lyonnais, but the later still have one game more to be played.
If we look at current form, Marseille are in a more impressive run than their next opponents. Rudi Garcia’s team is unbeaten in its last five games and won four of them in a row. This run allowed them to return in the battle for European qualification, so now they will try to make it five in a row against the strong team of Monaco.
Monaco lost the derby against Olympique Lyonnais before the winter break, but against Caen they got back on the winning way. They will once again rely on Radamel Falcao, who scored 11 goals in the league so far and he’s once again looking as the goalscorer he used to be a few years ago.
The home team will be without the services of the injured Henri Bedimo, Abou Diaby and Alphousseyni Sané. They are all unavaliable for selection by the manager Rudi Garcia.
Monaco’s head coach Leonardo Jardim can’t rely on Andrea Raggi, who is also injured and won’t be fit to play at the Stade Velodrome.
