Vitesse – Ajax
Vitesse hosts Ajax in a match from the 26th round of the Dutch Eredivisie. Let’s have a look at this clash, which promises to be very interesting.
Vitesse are 7th in the Eredivisie standings with 38 points won so far. They have a record of 10 wins, 8 draws and 7 losses since the beginning of the season. In the previous round Vitesse made a 2-2 draw against VVV away from home. Nils Roseler and Mason Mount scored the goals for the away team, but they were not enough for the win.
Vitesse’s main goal until the end of the season remains a qualification for Europa League. Right now Vitesse are just two points above the 8th ADO Den Haag, so first they have to keep their place in the Europa League playoff zone of the Eredivisie.
Meanwhile Ajax are 2nd in the Eredivisie with 58 points won so far. They have a record of 18 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats. In their last five games Ajax won four times, but lost two precious points during the draw with ADO Den Haag at home. The game at the Amsterdam Arena ended with a 0-0 result, which was dissapointing for everyone attending it.
Right now Ajax are on 7 points behind the leader PSV, so most surely they are not in a position to be called favourites for the title. The title is now PSV’s to lose. Ajax can hope that they could erase PSV’s lead, but it won’t be easy for sure. They need to be perfect and in same time they must hope that PSV are going to make mistakes.
This match is a must win for Ajax, if they want to keep their chances of winning the title alive. But in same time, Vitesse also need to continue to win points.
